WILLIAM Shakespeare's play brilliance was last Friday turned into a thrilling visual display when a British cast named Globe Theatre performed the iconic play, Hamlet, at 7arts in the Capital.

The play, which was partly organised by Rooftop Promotions, marked the British group's 91st play in their world tour.

So succinct was the execution of the two-hour performance which evoked distinct feelings and left the audience clamouring for a deeper penetration into the Elizabethan era.

The play which was co-directed by Dominic Dromgoole and Bill Buckhurst, with cast members who included Ladi Emeruwa (Hamlet), John Dougall (Claudius and Polonius) and Amanda Wilkin as Ophelia among others.
According to their website: "The Hamlet Globe to Globe tour opened at Shakespeare's Globe on April 23 2014, the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth."

Artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe said: "Globe to Globe Hamlet was created with the aim of performing Hamlet to as many people as possible, in as diverse a range of places as possible. The central principle of the tour is that Shakespeare can entertain and speak to anyone, no matter where they are on earth; and that no country or people are not better off for the lively presence of Hamlet."

The local education curriculum has for long accommodated Shakespeare's plays in learning hence appreciation is wide.

The play which employed renaissance costumes and staging was well attended by theatre lovers who filled the venue.
The group is looking forward to performing in all 205 countries of the world.

They took the opportunity to carry out a survey among the audience to see how the locals love theater.
The audience was asked to fill a questionnaire on how theatre is perceived in the country and what age groups loved it.

Their next show is set for Capitol Theatre at Livingstone in Zambia followed by Botswana on the
April 15 at Mowana Lodge, Kasane.
