This year's edition of the Castle Tankard Horse racing event that is scheduled for May 16 at Borrowdale race course will feature a fashion extravaganza, the organisers have revealed.

Speaking during the launch of the 2015 Castle Tankard 53 edition, Delta Beverages marketing manager, Patricia Murambinda said the event was going to have a fashion show with the same intensity like that of the Durban July event.

The Durban July is South Africa's prestigious horse racing event that is now popular for presenting a unique fashion experience. It has become a regional lifestyle event to look forward to, attracting celebrities, socialites and the who-is-who's in various industries

"We will identify people that are dressed for the occasion. We are introducing this because over the years, one thing we have not managed to do is to paint the fashion side of things that is associated with horse racing. Those who have been to events like the Durban July understand what we are talking about," she said.

Murambinda said outstanding fashionistas who showcase unique trends will be honoured with various cash prizes on the day.

"Our theme is 'Go Big or Go Home'. Anyone who is over 18 years old is free to participate in the red carpet fashion show. We are encouraging people to showcase trends," she said.

The entertainment programme during the racing day will feature popular musicians - Winky D, Sulumani Chimbetu, Tocky Vibez, DJ L-roy and displays from the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, the Castle Tankard Promotion will run from today until the day of the race May 16.

"Prizes to be won from the various promotions include four Nissan NP200 vehicles, one double cab NP300, generators, television sets and over $30 000 in cash. Our traders will walk away with 1 500 cases of castle lager while punters will walk away with $50 000 stake money," she said

Some of the key highlights of the May 16 event include the "Ninth Race" dubbed "Dash for Cash", which is a track race for people that will attend the horse race.

Participants for the race will be drawn Castle Lager customers who will stand a chance to win $1 000 cash.
