Zimbabwean Rnb songstress Cindy Munyavi landed the Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa award at the Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) ceremony held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos on Saturday night.

The Zimbabwean diva beat continental music heavyweights that included Zahara and Lira from South Africa as well former Big Brother Africa (BBA) star Mampi to win the coveted gong.

Cindy's hit Parere Moyo won the day against Lira's "Something Inside So Strong", Zahara's "Impilo" and Mampi's "Love Recipe."

The "Ndidzorere Moyo Wangu" expressed her happiness in winning the continental award on her Facebook page.

"Mwari Vakanaka hamawe...mukombe ... (God is great, the award ) thank you for all your support...we brought the Afrima (All Africa Music Award) for the best female artist in southern Africa..I cannot contain my joy," she wrote.

After Cindy's Facebook post several Zimbabwean artistes including Victor Kunonga, Alishias "Maskiri" Musimbe and Dj-Stavo congratulated the award winner popular for her animated stage routines.

The rising Zimbabwean star also received congratulations from actress Tinopona Mapereke Katsande and Hollywood-based Zimbabwean celebrity make-up artist Jackie Muchanyuka-Mgido.

Cindy, who recently opened a fashion outlet in the city centre of Harare, attended the Afrima ceremony donning her own designs.

The Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa award is a fitting reward for Cindy whose professionalism makes her a beacon in a country where most performers have irked music fans through dishonourable conduct.

Cindy is managed by Elton Bryce of Bryce Nation and has produced a string of hits that include Ndidzorere Moyo Wangu, Parere Moyo and Ndiri Mupenyu.

Other Zimbabwean artistes who were nominated in the continental awards were Jah Prayzah and Sabastian Magacha. Jah Prayzah was nominated for his song Tsviriyo while Magacha was nominated on the strength of the hit – 1+1 in the Best Male Artiste in African Inspirational Music Category.
