Zimbarts
The following exercept was originally published in the HIFA 2014 programme.
Formed by two drumming virtuosos, Blessing Chimanga from Zimbabwe and Massimo Covini from Italy, Zimboita embodies cross-cultural experimentation and the fusion of musical styles from two very different corners of the world. The band has grown into a close-knit group of four, two Italians and two Zimbabweans. Combining local and Western instruments (marimba, mbira, percussion, bass guitar and keyboard), Zimboita has a genuinely original sound that appeals to lovers of traditional local music and fans of European sounds alike.
