In Ethiopia, even today people believe that deafness is due to the sins made by their parents. For this reason, the deaf children are often ashamed and hidden from the society. Only about 3% of the deaf children get an education. The Short documentary film "Falling on Deaf Ears" shares the stories of five deaf Ethiopian school kids; how they ended up in the school, what it means for them and what they are hoping for in the future.
The film offers a voice for those, that don't usually have it.

The documentary follows these children's everyday life in the Hossana School for the Deaf, and in the meanwhile get to know them. Through the children we will hear stories of discrimination and orphan hood, but also about surviving and forgiveness.

Etiopiassa uskotaan yhä lasten kuurouden johtuvan heidän vanhempiensa synneistä. Tämän vuoksi kuuroja lapsia usein piilotellaan ja hävetään. Lyhyt dokumenttielokuva"Kuuroille korville" kertoo viiden koululaisen tarinan siitä, kuinka he ovat päätyneet kouluun, mitä se heille merkitsee ja mitä he toivoisivat tulevaisuudelta.

Elokuva tarjoaa päähenkilöille oman äänen, jota tavallisesti kukaan ei kuule.

Dokumentissa seurataan lasten arkea Hosainan kuurojen koulussa, tutustuen samalla heidän elämäntarinoihinsa. Lasten kautta kuulemme heihin kohdistuvasta syrjinnästä, halveksunnasta ja orpoudesta, mutta myös selviytymisestä ja anteeksiannosta.
