The year-long course gets underway in January 2013 and is aimed at aspiring photojournalists from South Africa and further afield on the continent as well as practicing photographers who seek to hone their skills. The PDP offers students the opportunity to sharpen technical competence in a context of critical engagement with social challenges and the media environment. The PDP also encompasses internships with media houses and other organisations.

Applicants are required to have familiarity with basic photography skills, whether through recognised prior learning or on-the-job experience. In keeping with the ethos of the Market Photo Workshop, there is an emphasis on ensuring a representative and inclusive student intake. Bursaries may be available to students in demonstrable financial need.

Details on the applications process can be found on the website of the Market Photo Workshop: www.marketphotoworkshop.co.za. For further information, contact PDP Co-ordinator Tebogo Kekana at tebogok@marketphotoworkshop.co.za or +27 (11) 834-1444.

The deadline for applications is 17h00 on 5 October 2012.

The PDP is run with the support of Getty Images, the Open Society Foundation for South Africa, the Media Development and Diversity Agency and Canon.

The Market Photo Workshop is a division of The Market Theatre Foundation.
